City-wide Survey

kjhlkhl

There will be a City-wide survey in 2025 to better understand the residents satisfaction with City services and priorities.

More information to come, but keep an eye for this. Make your voice heard!

Roosevelt Road Corridor Redevelopment

The City has looked at the redevelopment of Roosevelt Road from Carlton Avenue to the East border with Glen Ellyn.

This has been an iterative process to balance growth without dimensioning the character of our neighborhoods adjacent to Roosevelt.

Cosley Zoo Parking Lot

Cosley Zoo Parking Lot

Based on the City's Zoning Ordinance, the parking lot is a permitted use on this land as it is owned by, and adjacent to, Park District property.

For better or worse, this is wholly a Park District issue and initiative.

Lead-Free Wheaton

Potential Sources of Lead in our Water System

Potential Sources of Lead in our Water System

Lead in drinking water has gained nationwide attention due to the negligence and tragedy that befell Flint Michigan. Unfortunately, our children are the most vulnerable to the effects of Lead.

The Federal Lead limit is 15 ppb, but the EPA states that there is no safe level of lead and that effects start at 5 ppb.

I am an advocate for removing all potential sources of lead from our drinking water. If we can state that Wheaton is "Lead-Free City", not only will that increase our standard living, but it will solidify Wheaton as a premier destination for healthy living.

While lead in the pipes can remain dormant and not effect the water quality, if there is a change in the chemistry of the water (Flint situation) or a physical disruption, lead can enter the water supply. Aside from construction related activities that can cause a disruption to the pipes, the Midwest lies in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which is overdue for some action.

Water Delivery System

  1. The City buys water from the DuPage Water Commission. This water is sourced from Lake Michigan. This water is tested and stored by the City before distribution.
  2. Then the water travels through the City Water Mains.
  3. Each building then has a Water Service Line that connects to the Water Main. The Service Line is divided into 2 sections at the Water Valve:
    • City Owned Service - Water Main to Valve
    • Private Owned Service - Valve to Home

We have made great strides in reducing lead in our Water Mains, City Service Lines, and Private Services. I will continue to push for funding to eliminate lead in each link of our water delivery system.
