Why do we need an engineer?

Bill Nye and Michael Barbier... "The Science Guys"

Science and innovation move us forward as a city and as a society. It is crucial that we have a City Council that is knowledgeable about the sciences.

Why does City Council need an Engineer?

  • Safe Roadways = Civil Engineering
  • Water main maintenance = Civil Engineering
  • Bridges = Civil Engineering
  • Sidewalks and Trails = Civil Engineering
  • Storm Water Drainage = Civil Engineering
  • Sanitary Sewer System = Civil Engineering
  • Providing Lead-Free water = Civil Engineering

Michael is a Professional Engineer with nearly a decade of Engineering Experience and an MBA from the school where Enrico Fermi worked on the Atomic Bomb under the Football Field (University of Chicago).

Understand who we are and what developments belong in Wheaton.

Infrastructure

Reduce Flooding

We must improve the City's Sewer Systems and ensure that Wheaton homes do not consistently flood.

During a rain event, our Sanitary Sewers are inundated with groundwater causing backups on the North side. On the South side, our Storm Sewers are over capacity, resulting in flooding.

Safe Routes To Schools, Parks, and Attractions

We have made huge strides in providing sidewalks to every street in Wheaton and will continue until that is accomplished in 2026.

Parents should not have to worry about their child's safety every time they walk outside.

Safe & Efficient Roadways

Improve dangerous intersections, reduce speeds on residential streets, provide accommodations for pedestrians & bikes.

Allow traffic to flow smoothly and reduce the need for cut through traffic.

Police Department

We must ensure that we protect our residents by preventing crime, stopping it in progress, and bringing criminals to justice.

We have made large investments in fire fighting vehicles and must continue to have first-class first responders.

Fiscal Responsibility

Spend within our means

Add Value to the Taxpayers

Spend within our means

"There is no dignity quite so impressive, and no one independence quite so important, as living within your means." - Calvin Coolidge

Be self-sufficient

Add Value to the Taxpayers

Spend within our means

We cannot plan on Springfield or Washington to supply long-term funding and certainly not look to them for any sort of "bail out".

Add Value to the Taxpayers

Add Value to the Taxpayers

"If it doesn't Add Value, it's a waste" - Henry Ford

Each tax dollar spent should generate more than a dollar in benefits to our citizens.

Economic Development

Understand Our Community

Understand Our Community

Understand Our Community

Wheaton has a strong focus on Families. Our successful development has been and always will be centered around our Families.

I would like to see our local businesses and the Downtown area "Own Saturday and Sunday Afternoon". Providing goods and services to attract and serve our families.

Include Technology

Understand Our Community

Understand Our Community

Let's be a "Tech Friendly Town". Encourage Tech Start-Ups and freelancers to make Wheaton their home.

This will also create exposure to high tech careers for our current students and recent graduates. Whether it is a full-time job or a summer internship, our community will be ready for the jobs of today & tomorrow.

Smart Growth

Understand Our Community

Smart Growth

Not all growth is good growth. We must take a long-term approach to Economic Development and grow our economy in a stable & sustainable manner.

Especially when City Funds are used for incentives, we need to invest in developments that will remain in Wheaton for the next 25 years and beyond.
